Cate Blanchett starred in Lord of the Rings as Galadriel in the iconic franchie
Lord of the Rings is one of the biggest and lucrative properties out there, but the earnings apparently didn’t trickle down to the actors according to Oscar-winner, Cate Blanchett.
Blanchett, who is currently on the media rounds promoting her latest film Borderlands, spoke about Lord of the Rings in a recent interview.
The Academy-Award winner played Galadriel in the much-loved franchie, and fans would argue the actor played a crucial role in the film’s success.
However, while being interviewed on an episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Wednesday (7 August), Blanchett claimed ‘no one got paid anything’ for working on Lord of the Rings.

The discussion around pay on the films came about after Blanchett was asked which movie got her the biggest pay day.
As probably most of us would think, Cohen suggested it would probably be Lord of the Rings considering the size of the franchise.
I mean, the trilogy brought in $2.9 billion worldwide, so we’re hardly talking pennies here, are we?
However, Blanchett quickly shut down the suggestion made by Cohen as she said: “Are you kidding me? No, no one got paid anything to do that movie.”
This led to the host asking the Australian actor if she received any of the ‘backend’, but she dismissed that too.
“No! That was way before any of that. No, nothing,” she added.
With no pay, Blanchett’s desire to work on the project came about due to the opportunity to work with Braindead director Peter Jackson.
Blanchett added: “I mean, I basically got free sandwiches. Women don’t get paid as much as you think they do.”

As for here and now, Blanchett’s latest flick, Borderlands, is performing pretty poorly. Well, that is putting it lightly.
Based on the popular video game series, the new movie featuring Jack Black debuted with a zero percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
While the film may have increased in score to seven percent score at the time of writing, the general consensus is pretty clear.
“The fans deserve a lot better than whatever director Eli Roth is trying to do with Borderlands. This is the video game movie curse at its worst,” DiscussingFilm penned in its review.
While IGN wrote: “Borderlands is an abysmal waste of a beloved franchise that takes a kooky band of murderous misfits and drains the life out of their adventure together.”
It’s not all bad news for the movie, however, as one viewer shared: “I enjoyed it, if you are a fan of the game it’s worth the trip. I admittedly didn’t have high hopes and it pleasantly surprised me.”
