The singer has asked for privacy during this ‘impossible’ time
Mariah Carey has shared that her mother and sister passed away on the same day over the past weekend.
The singer confirmed the death of her mom Patricia and sister Alison to People magazine.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” Carey said in an exclusive statement to People.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” she added. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

No further details on the causes of Patricia and Alison’s death have been shared at this time.
Like her daughter, Patricia was also musically inclined and was a Juilliard-trained opera singer and vocal coach.
While Carey credits her mother for her vocal talents, she previously shared that their relationship was complicated.
In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the Grammy-winning artist wrote, “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It’s never been only black-and-white — it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions.”

“Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment,” she continued. “A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s.”
The singer also dedicated her memoir in part to her mother writing, “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could.”
“I will love you the best I can, always,” she added.
This is a developing story and updates will be posted accordingly.
