Kate Middleton announces she has finished chemotherapy for cancer in emotional update

The Princess of Wales shared a personal video to announce the news

Kate Middleton has announced she has finished chemotherapy for cancer in an emotional update this afternoon (9 September).

The Princess of Wales appeared in a very personal video with her family, confirming she’ll be retuning to public duties following this positive development.

“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” a message from her on the family’s official X account reads.

Discussing her cancer journey, Kate’s message is spoken over images showing her and her husband with their three kids, enjoying the outdoors, walking through woods and the royal couple shown cuddling as they hold hands.

The royal describes the past nine months since her diagnosis as ‘incredibly tough for us as a family’ and how the ‘cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone’, with the experience giving her a ‘new perspective on everything’.

In the video, Kate says: “Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.

“I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.

“Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.”

The Princess is going to carry on working from home, but she hopes to return to a light programme of public duties for the rest of this year.

With a focus on making a full recovery, she’s aiming to make a handful of engagements in the coming months.

Kate is also working towards appearing with the rest of the Royal Family at the annual Remembrance Sunday service staged at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on 10 November.

The Princess’ Christmas Carol concert at Westminster Abbey has become a firm fixture in the royal calendar in recent years and she has begun working with her team on the project.

Her message also said: “William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time. Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling.

“To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey – I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
