Sabrina Carpenter performed her latest hits at the MTV Video Music Awards tonight and one moment on stage had fans particularly shocked.
The singer hit the stage at the UBS Arena this evening (September 11) as a nominee and performer.
The ‘Please Please Please’ artist was nominated for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for her track ‘Espresso,’ Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Best Art Direction.

She took the stage to perform a trio of singles from her recent album Short n’ Sweet.
While performing her newest single ‘Taste,’ Carpenter paused for a brief moment to share a steamy kiss with one of her backup dancers dressed up as an alien.

Fans online are losing it over the kiss, with one person writing on Twitter: “She’s so iconic for this. She just did the newest version of Madonna x Britney’s moment.”
They seem to be referencing Madonna, Britney Spears and Christian Aguilera’s iconic three-way kiss that they shared on the VMA stage in 2003.
Another user wrote: “If Sabrina Carpenter is into blue aliens like that then do I have a movie suggestion for her,” presumably poking fun at Avatar.
“I wish I was that alien.” another user succinctly wrote in all capital letters.
The singer first rose to prominence for starring in Boy Meets World spinoff Girl Meets World on the Disney Channel. She also performed as an opening act during Taylor Swift‘s Eras tour.

Her single ‘Espresso’ released earlier this year swiftly became the internet’s song of the summer.
In a recent profile with The Guardian, Carpenter weighed in on her newfound explosive fame and what this landmark year has been like for her.
“Full transparency: I’ve never really been on charts until quite recently, so it’s a newfound, like … I’m interested,” she began. “It’s not the reason I write music and it’s not the reason I’ll ever write music. It’s like the sprinkles on top of the sundae.”
“You start to realize that there’s more to all of it than just, like, blood, sweat and tears and love and talent and passion. There’s beautiful sides to this and there’s really dark, weird sides to all of it.
“I just love doing it – there’s sort of a need for it – and when that’s the thing that’s driving you, success doesn’t really matter. You’re just gonna keep going regardless.
“I’ve been called a flop many times and here we are, so …”
