Perry Farrell’s wife has spoken out on social media about the controversial incident
The wife of the singer that attacked his bandmate onstage during a show on Friday (13 September) has revealed why he did it.
Frontman of Jane’s Addiction, Perry Farrell, 65, seemed to lose the plot in the middle of the rock band’s gig in Boston, US this week, taking out his frustrations on a fellow band member.
Fans were shocked as he threw a punch at bandmate Dave Navarro, 57, before those backstage held him back from getting any further.
There have been several theories on social media as to why the lead singer let tensions boil over on stage, with some fans also believe that this could spell the end of the band as we know it.

Reports from those at the show claim that Farrell was shouting at the guitarist as the band played their hit tune ‘Mountain Song’, before the lead singer lost it.
During ‘Ocean Size’, the vocalist looked seemingly frustrated as he went towards Navarro, shoulder-barging him, before taking a moment and then taking a swing at his bandmate in front of thousands.
The viral footage reveals that members of the production team got involved as they held the frontman back, while the stage lights were turned down to hide as much of what was happening from the public.
Eagle-eyed fans would still have seen Farrell getting tackled and then removed from stage, while bassist Eric Avery also got involved by holding the singer back.
But now, Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau, has released a statement on Instagram, addressing the events in a post from yesterday.
She shared a clip of the moment and wrote: “Rather than speculating, I thought to post a first person account of what happened on stage.
“Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members. The magic that made the band so dynamic. Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry got up in Dave’s face and body checked him.”
Lau claimed that her husband’s ‘frustration has been mounting’, adding: “He felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night.
“But when the audience in the first row, started complaining up to Perry cussing at him that the band was planning too loud and that they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it.”

She revealed that it happened as Perry was ‘screaming to be heard’ due to the stage volume being too loud at one point.
Speaking about who won, she said: “Why, Eric Avery of course. While Dave was keeping Perry at arm’s length to de-escalate the situation. Dan rushed over to de-escalate as well by holding Perry back. Dave walked away to take his guitar off. Eric walked up to Perry, upstage, in the dark, behind Dan, put Perry in a headlock and punched him in the stomach three times.
“Kevin, crew member with a long hair with long hair pulled Eric away. Then Eric nonchalant walked off to the front of the stage to apologise to audience for the show ended early.
“Dave still looked handsome and cool in the middle of a fight. Perry was a crazed beast for the next half an hour – he finally did not calm down, but did breakdown and cried and cried. Eric, well he either didn’t understand what descalation meant or took advantage of the situation and got in a few cheap shots on Perry.”
According to Setlist.fm, Jane’s Addiction had got through 11 songs before the gig came to an abrupt halt.
