Florence Pugh highlighted the chemistry she shares with Andrew Garfield after their steamy sex scene got slightly out of hand
Florence Pugh has opened up on her chemistry with Andrew Garfield in their upcoming film, We Live In Time, after it was revealed that the pair kept going during a sex scene after ‘not hearing cut’.
The romance-drama stars Pugh and Garfield as Almut and Tobias, and follows them as their relationship blossoms after meeting by chance.
The audience experiences several events with the pair, from falling in love to having a child, all the way to a gut-wrenching cancer diagnosis. Get the tissues ready, folks.
Despite debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival this year, it is only slated to be released in the UK in January 2025, though, despite the hype around it and an emotional trailer, one scene has stolen the headlines in recent weeks.
Garfield sat down with Josh Horowitz in New York recently to speak about an intimate scene with Pugh, where neither of them heard the cameraman shout ‘cut’, so as the professionals that they are, the actors kept going at it.
He explained that it was a ‘closed set’, where the director was in a different room and there was only a camera operator named Stuart in there with the actors, who had to perform the passionate sex scene.
Garfield explained: “The scene becomes passionate and we get into it as it were and we go a little bit further than we were meant to.. it’s feeling safe and we just kind of… go from the next thing to the next thing and we’ll let this progress and we’ll just carry on.”

However, it reached a point where The Amazing Spider-Man actor looked up and realised that Stuart was stood facing the wall in the corner of the room, waiting for them to finish.
It’s a great example of professionalism from the actors, who kept going as they didn’t hear to stop, while speaking to the on-screen spark between the actors.
Pugh spoke about this and the Kelly and Mark show, as the hosts pointed out that she even had ‘chemistry with a door knob’.
Noting that she’s been asked the question a few times by the press, she said: “Ultimately, we don’t really know what chemistry is, other than the fact that you’ve got two energies that are working together – and he’s such a talented actor, and I’ve always admired his work, and when I saw this movie opportunity of whether I would do it, I just was so unbelievably thrilled to know that I could have the opportunity working with him in this way.”

The Oppenheimer actress went on: “I think when you have two people that are completely invested in being great for one another, I guess that’s probably what happened, we had such an insane experience shooting this movie and creating this life with these lovers.”
Going on to say that it was ‘wonderful’ to hear that people have enjoyed the film, Pugh also said she was ‘excited’ for wider audiences to be able to experience the flick.
