Where do you see yourself in 20 years’ time? Maybe moving up the ranks at work, or hanging out with your dog? How about living in a tiny house that cost less than $28,000?

Sure, that’s still a lot of money – but for two stories, two deck areas and a lot of natural light? That, my friends, is what they call a bargain.

With house prices having skyrocketed from what they were a few decades ago, more and more people are having to adjust their ideas of the ‘perfect home’ to make it fit a more reasonable budget.

Jay Shafer, who is credited as the creator of the tiny home movement, told The US Sun: “Even 25 years ago it was not hard to see how the housing crisis was already happening for a lot of us.

“It became clearer in 2008, and I think that it’s just, the housing crisis has been perpetuated by a lot of bad laws that prohibit efficiency and affordable housing and until we fix those the crisis will continue.”

As a result of the increasing costs, ‘tiny houses’ have stepped into the spotlight, with content creators sharing insights into their lives in the small containers that have been built for life on a smaller scale.

This particular $27,990 home is being sold by Amazon and offers potential new homeowners a bit more extra space than many tiny homes. That’s thanks to its second floor and off-set design, creating two additional outdoor areas that could be used for seating, firing up the grill or entertaining any pets you might have accompanying you in the small home.

The structure stands at a total of 20 feet tall and measures 20 feet x 8 feet, with inside space for kitchen appliances, a bed, a bathroom and living space.

Anyone looking to buy a tiny home will, of course, need some land to put it on, but its small size means the house would take up a lot less space than required if building an entirely new, regular-sized home on a piece of property.

In the event of adverse weather, the prefabricated home is built to withstand earthquakes, wind and rain, and is ‘easy to install’ to allow the new owner to start living in it almost ‘immediately’.

The seller, Emonia, explains: “Our Prefab house can be used for 20 years, with free maintenance within six months.”

The two-story home is one of a number sold by the manufacturer, which also sells furniture.
