Dog loses hope, “cries endlessly” after 260 days in the shelter — looking for a perfect new home

Staying in a shelter for an extended period can significantly impact a dog. Numerous shelters witness dogs that were once cheerful and optimistic gradually lose their enthusiasm after facing months of rejection.

One Indiana shelter dog named Major continues to “cry endlessly” over 260 days after being rejected by his previous family. However, the shelter staff still believe that there is a perfect family out there for him.

Major, a terrier/pitbull mix, is a 4-year-old dog currently under the care of the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Indiana.

Last summer, he was brought in as a stray. A Facebook post revealed that he had a microchip, allowing shelter staff to reach out to his original owners. Despite their promise to come get him, they never arrived.

Major has been at the shelter for a long time. However, despite the sad rejection, the humane society reports that Major was initially in good spirits. They describe him as a “sweet and sensitive” dog, a “true companion with a big heart” who enjoys playing and loves his Jolly Ball.

The employees praised his good looks and gave him the nicknames “Major hunk” and “Major heartthrob.” However, not everyone recognized his amazing traits: time passed, and Major was consistently overlooked by potential adopters.

The shelter workers mentioned that Major’s constant rejection has greatly affected his cheerful demeanor.

The humane society posted on Facebook that his lively personality is fading. This formerly cheerful dog who loved playing with balls now just sits in his room crying nonstop.

The shelter relocated him from the kennels to the visiting room due to stress, but they understand that the best solution is to find Major a permanent home quickly.

Major is most suitable for a home without young children or cats. While he can be friendly with other dogs, he may not always be aware of his own strength, so it’s recommended to have a meet-and-greet first.

Not every home may be suitable for Major, but there is definitely a family out there who would be the perfect match for this affectionate and lively dog. Major’s adoption page states, “If you’re prepared to embrace a loving, energetic, and playful companion into your life, Major is the perfect choice for you!”

If you’re nearby and want to adopt Major, simply complete an application on his adoption page and stop by the Humane Society of Hamilton County for a meet and greet.

It’s heartbreaking to see Major depressed and losing his spirits after so long in the shelter, so we hope he finds a new home ASAP! Please share this story to spread the word about this beautiful dog! ❤️
