The US athlete’s face during the photo is pretty much meme gold
A brilliantly timed photo has captured the US athletes hilarious reaction after noticing the pose the Chinese athletes were in after winning gold.
Thanks to technological advancement, we can pretty much capture everything on camera, for better or worse.
And when it comes to the Olympics, you would think the greatest emphasis would be on capturing the best athletic feats the world has seen.
Now, while we use all the hundreds of cameras in stadiums to capture that, we can also catch glimmers of equally brilliant moments (or hilarious slip-ups)
A photo seemed to capture the moment Olympic diver Kassidy Cook looked over and saw how the Chinese diving gold medalists Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani were celebrating – and her reaction seems straight out of a cartoon.
New meme template just dropped. (Twitter/womenpostingws)
Making their Olympic debut, 22-year-old Chang and 24-year-old Chen were able to beat out the US and British team in the women’s synchronized 3-metre springboard final last Saturday (July 27).
The duo scored 337.68 to beat US’ Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook (314.64) and Great Britain’s Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen (302.28) in bronze.
However, a quick snap after the teams were awarded their medals has been doing the rounds on social media.
The viral picture shows Cook’s jaw pretty much dropping to the floor as Chen held her partner Chang in the bridal carry as they posed for a picture.
“That’s the face of “wait that’s so cute, we should’ve done that too,” one social media user joked.
“The US team’s reaction is priceless! It’s always interesting to see how athletes from different countries respond to each other’s celebrations,” wrote another person.
“That is so wholesome omg and winning a gold medal tgther !?! Slayyy,” a third wrote.

“That reaction is like a mix of shock and ‘Did we just get schooled?’ Love the drama of sports!,” joked another.
As brilliant as the reaction is, people on Twitter have claimed that the reason the Chinese athletes look so comfortable together is because they are actually a couple. However, neither athlete has publicly confirmed this.
Those claiming the duo are a couple have said their social media pages show multiple pictures of them intimately together.
But as this remains unconfirmed, fewer people have been bothered and simply praised the two for their achievement as well as the tight-knit relationship they have for one another, competing for their country.
